How to View Track & Artist Notification On iTunes Dock Icon In Mac

You would have undoubtedly come across a lot of apps that allow you to control iTunes from the Menu bar, and we’ve certainly covered our fair share of them. What most of these apps have in common, is that the ones displaying the song & artist name on the menu bar either do so as ticker, or take up a lot of space on the bar itself. As far as seeing the which song is playing goes, this simple tip lets you view the name of the song and the artist on the iTunes Dock icon. Somewhat similar to viewing the number of unread messages on the Mail icon, this little tweak will show a small popup whenever the song changes, and splash the name of the one that is currently playing.

If you have iTunes running, exit it and run the following commands in Terminal.

defaults write com.apple.dock itunes-notifications -bool TRUE

defaults write com.apple.dock notification-always-show-image -bool TRUE

killall Dock

The first of these three commands pops up the song & artist name, the second one adds the iTunes icon to the notification. You can skip the second one if you like.

Once done, launch iTunes and play a song. You will see the track’s name appear in a notification just about the iTunes icon in the Dock.

To reverse this, simply run the following commands in Terminal after quitting iTunes;

defaults delete com.apple.dock itunes-notifications

defaults delete com.apple.dock notification-always-show-image

killall Dock

The commands are rather simple, and with hardly any effort, you can use the Dock as an alternative for iTunes notifications.

As mentioned earlier, Broomstick has the ability to re-order applications’ icons in menu bar. As of now, it supports re-ordering menu bar icons for only a limited number of applications. You just need to specify the names of applications in the order in which you want them to appear in menu bar. Once you’ve specified applications’ names. hit Done followed by Order My Icons to refresh menu bar for changing the order of apps’ icons.

Avoid Accidental Launch Of Notification Center While Playing Games On Your iPhone

No one likes to be disturbed while they are annihilating zombies on their iPhone, or attacking pigs with livid birds on iPad. However, the fact remains that no matter how hard you try, there is always something ready to nag you during your game time. If not from an external source, your iDevice might decide to troll you all of a sudden. One occurrence which has annoyed users ever since iOS 5 was released is the accidental launch of Notification Center while playing games on their iPhone. This leads to a disruption of your flow, and if you are playing online, you will most probably be disconnected from the server. Finally, one developer over at the Cydia store has resolved this problem with the release of a new SBSettings toggle named DisableNC. With this tweak, you can make sure that NC never rears its rather handsome head while you are playing a game.

DisableNC is available in the BigBoss repo of the Cydia store, but before you download it, make sure that your device has got SBSettings installed. The toggle, once installed, won’t make any changes to to the Springboard or Settings app of your iDevice. To configure DisableNC, follow these steps.

1.Launch SBSettings.

2.Tap the More button in from among the options in the bottom row.

3.Here, enable the DisableNC toggle.

4.The new button will now appear in the main menu of SBSettings, and by enabling the DisableNC toggle, you can ensure that NC stays put when you are in full screen mode within a game.

Notification Center will, of course, continue to work in all other areas of iOS when you are not playing a game even if the DisableNC button is active. The tweak is an extremely handy one if you are an iOS gamer, and comes for free on top of that, so do give it a try and you just might find it a perfect addition to your SBSettings arsenal.

Kexec: Bypass Locked Bootloader On Motorola Droid RAZR

The Droid RAZR gets an unlocked bootloader! Well not exactly, but if I am to sum up the achievement of XDA-Developers forum members  kholk and embeem, I can tell you that the locked bootloader on the Droid RAZR is not going to stop you from flashing stuff like custom kernels anymore. The rumored project was named Kexec and had been in the works for a while now. What the developers have managed to do, is come up with a way to bypass the bootloader signature checks on the device, thereby totally ignoring the existence of an otherwise locked bootloader. Given the attempts to pressurize Motorola into providing unlocked bootloaders for their devices, like petitions and reaching out via social media, nothing has changed at all at Motorola’s end. So Kexec right now – for the Droid RAZR and its users – is a huge deal. We tell you more about it, and how you can get it up and running on your Droid RAZR, after the break.

First thing first, you need to know that this is still a work in progress and while significant ground has been made, there are a few known issues as well. According to kholk:

“(1) CPU1 doesn’t come up. (2) It fails on (some?) CDMA Droid RAZRs.”

So far the package has been tested on:

* 651.167.19.XT910.Retail.en.FR
* 651.167.26.XT910.Retail.en.EU
* 65.1.40.XT910.MERetail.en.06
* 651.73.250.XT910.Brasil.en.BR
* 65.1.40.XT910.AsiaRetail.en.03
* 65.3.106.XT910S.SKT.en.KR

So let’s move on to the installation and correcting a few problems that may or may not arise as a consequence.

Requirements:

* A rooted Motorola Droid RAZR with a custom recovery installed. Click here for our guide on rooting the        Droid RAZR and installing a custom recovery.
* Terminal Emulator installed from the Market.
* Download Kexec.

Instructions:

1. To begin, copy the package to your device’s internal memory or ext SD card.
2. Boot into bootstrap recovery and install the package via the recovery.
3. Once installed, reboot into the OS.
4. Open up the terminal emulator and enter the following commands:
su

sh /system/bypassme/bypassme.sh

Done! Wait for 10 seconds and the phone will vibrate and apparently freeze. Give it a minute as the phone is jumping over to the new kernel. Incase it’s still frozen, press the Volume down key and the Power button together for a hard shutdown, and try again.

Incase the device has slowed down really bad, install an app like SetCPU or CPU Master and change the governor from ‘mot_hotplug’ to ‘ondemand’. Moreover, incase something isn’t working, remove anything set to automatically run at boot, especially apps like SetCPU and CPU Master.

For updates and queries, head over to the forum thread at XDA-Developers.

A Unique Dual-Pane Home Screen Replacement App For Android With Mobo Launcher

Mobo Launcher focuses mainly on presenting users with quick navigation to their favorite apps and widgets through a unique split-screen interface that is as simple to use as it is to customize.

By default, the launcher’s interface is divided into a scrollable section for widgets, an side-scrolling app drawer that itself is presented under various app groups/categories and a scrollable dock for shortcuts to the most frequently used actions or apps. Swiping upward on the app drawer reveals it in its entirety, while swiping downwards returns it to its original half of the screen. The personalization options presented by Mobo Launcher range from specifying the number of dock screens to downloading and applying gorgeous themes, Mobo Widgets, Wallpapers, Skins and more from the launchers online repository. More to follow.

While using the default/split-screen mode of the launcher, you can view all your installed apps under various groups (Favorite, Apps, Games, System and Newest). Not only can you move an app from one category to other via simple drag-and-drop, but also define and customize your very own app categories. Long pressing an app category lets you add various apps to it, and/or reorder the group itself on the bar. Another handy feature of Mobo Launcher is that it makes it extremely easy to locate a newly installed app by displaying a tiny indicator on top of its group’s icon.

Various Mobo Launcher Widgets that can be availed include a one-tap memory optimizer, voice search, Mobo Weather, Creative Clock and native Mobo File Manager. Each widget itself is further supplemented by a variety of themes and designs to provide you a multitude of different flavors and options. The launcher has its very own file manager, app manager, and plenty of other nifty tools that can be downloaded from its online repository. The default layout of the launcher’s dock provides you with shortcuts to various system toggles and contacts, messaging app, calling app, web browser, and Mobo Launcher’s native personalization app.

Using the app’s main preferences screen (Menu > Preferences), not only can you opt to show/hide the status bar, but the entire content on the homescreen itself too, so that you can enjoy your favorite Mobo Launcher Wallpaper in full screen. Further customization options presented within the app’s main settings screen comprise specifying the number of dock screens, each complete with the content/shortcut of your choice. Moreover, the settings screen lets you modify various display settings, homescreen navigation effects, default group settings, widget settings, and the option to backup/restore launcher settings.

Another notable aspect of the launcher is the Gravity Sensor feature that, if turned on, utilizes your device’s accelerometer to sway the app icons on the homescreen as per the device movement. To enable this feature, simple enable the Gravity Sensor option within the Display settings on the app’s main settings screen.

That’s not all; Mobo Launcher allows you to fully tweak app icons. Not only can you change the app’s icons (load custom icons from the gallery), you can use a specific icon mask to define the boundaries of each app’s icon.

All in all; Mobo Launcher is worth giving a try for its buttery smooth animations and transitions, easy navigation, additional goodies, flexibility, and most importantly, for the sake of change that is considered to be an obligation in the Android ecosystem.

Mobo Launcher is available for free in the Google Play Store, and can be downloaded via the link or QR code provided below.
